• Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN): Over the last decade, WSNs have gained much attention from the research community and industry. Countless research projects have been initiated to study various aspects of WSNs to produce interesting fruitful results. Nowadays, however, the uses of WSNs are very limited by many theoretical or practical obstacles. For example, most WSNs adopt non-rechargeable batteries with limited power. Wireless links between sensor nodes are potentially unreliable and easily affected by various environmental factors. Furthermore, considering possible sensor node failures and outdoor installation and maintenance difficulties, a true WSN system often fails to support long-term large-scale applications with guaranteed performance.
• Internet of Things (IoT): The potential benefits of the Internet of Things (IoT) are almost limitless, and IoT applications are changing the way work and live saving time and resources and opening new opportunities for growth, innovation and knowledge creation. The Internet of Things allows private and public organizations to manage resources, optimize performance and develop new business models. As a vital tool for interconnecting devices and acting as a generic enabler of the connected society, IoT has great potential to support an aging society, improve energy efficiency and optimize all types of mobility and transportation.
• Home Automation: an application scenario of the IoT is, certainly, home automation because the IoT promises to make homes smarter. A smart home is a home equipped with technology that allows you to automatically and remotely control all home devices/appliances. In smart homes, users can easily monitor and control all home appliances via the Internet because these devices can connect in an appropriate network architecture and using standard wireless protocols.
• Fuzzy Logic Controllers: The use of rule-based fuzzy logic controllers allows the implementation of multi-criteria control strategies. Fuzzy logic is capable of making real-time decisions, even with incomplete information. Conventional control systems rely on an accurate representation of the environment, which typically does not exist in reality. Since fuzzy logic systems can manipulate linguistic rules in a natural way, they are particularly suitable in different contexts, such as WSN applications, home automation and real-time systems. Furthermore, fuzzy systems can be used by combining different parameters and rules, which combined together can produce an optimal result. Real-time Systems: a real-time system is adaptive if it is able to adapt its internal strategies in response to a change in the environment to maintain system performance at a desired level. In real-time adaptive systems, application resource needs are typically highly data-dependent and vary over time.
• Network Security and Blockchain: Blockchain-based technology is becoming increasingly popular and is used to solve a wide range of tasks. It's not just about cryptocurrencies. Its many applications make blockchain technology a key element in establishing business processes that can also be applied in manufacturing. Blockchain technology is present in IoT networks, workflow management systems, cryptocurrencies, and many other fields. It is now an essential component and cutting-edge standard for a whole host of companies. However, being a security-driven measure, a blockchain itself can be exposed to various risks. Since blockchains contain sensitive information on the assets and infrastructure of specific users and businesses, providing comprehensive protection is of paramount importance.
