The Italian as a Second Language course — jointly organized by the International Relations Office (KIRO) and the Language Center (CLIK) — is open to incoming Erasmus and international students. It helps participants develop the language skills needed for everyday life and university study in Italy.
The course comprises 48 hours of scheduled sessions, and aims to develop skills corresponding to A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Activities will be adapted to students’ starting levels and will focus on listening, reading, speaking and writing.
The course combines online and in-person sessions. At least 60% of sessions will take place online, in the evening to minimize conflicts with students’ university classes. In-person sessions may be held in the evening, provided they end by 19:00, or on Friday mornings or afternoons, when they may last up to 2 hours and 30 minutes. The Language Centre (CLIK) will publish the course calendar and provide the links for online sessions.
Students who do not wish to earn credits may attend the course freely. Attendance is not compulsory for these students, and they do not take the final exam.
Incoming Erasmus students may obtain 6 ECTS credits if the course is included in their Learning Agreement. Students wishing to earn the credits should inform the course teacher at the start of the course and check that the course appears in their Learning Agreement.
To be admitted to the final exam, students seeking credits must attend at least 70% of the 48 scheduled hours—that is, 33 hours. To obtain the credits, they must also complete the assigned activities and pass the final exam. The exam takes place separately from the 48 hours of scheduled sessions.
